Joan Carlos’ Front Row Experience: Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular
You will never meet another family who loves Christmas more than the Suarez’ family.
Joan, his wife Marta, and two children Matthew and Valentina live in West Deptford NJ – two hours outside of New York City.
The whole family loves to visit NYC, especially around Christmas.
In 2016, Joan fell while skiing and hurt his left leg. Nothing seemed to help it heal and after months of begging different doctors to do further testing, it was discovered that he had Chondrosarcoma Stage IV. It started in the left leg and femur and he had to have surgery to remove both the femur and hip. The cancer later spread to his lungs and brain. Soon thereafter it was discovered there was a recurrence to the leg and a recurrence into the brain. Joan spends his days doing chemotherapy and is waiting to see if he will have to have another brain surgery to remove the tumors.
Despite all that Joan has going on with his health – it does not keep him from doing what he loves most; spending time with his family and celebrating christmas.
Christmas means everything to the Suarez family. They are from Colombia and hold many traditions near and dear to their hearts.
Christmas is especially important because to them, Christmas means family and family is everything. Spending quality time together celebrating all the blessings in their lives while surrounded by beautiful christmas decorations is something the Suarez family starts doing the day after Halloween.
When Front Row Foundation found out that Joan’s wish was to see the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular – Event Directors Bex and Helen got right to work!
On November 17th there was a Christmas chill in the air when Joan, his wife Martha, and his two children arrived in New York City. Once out of their limo the Front Row Team swept them away to enjoy morning pastries and treats before opening presents.
Once everyone’s bellies were full and their gifts unwrapped the Christmas crew started towards Radio City Music hall for a pre-show tour! We passed all of NYC’s famous Christmas decorations along the way. Even passing giant ornaments the size of a small building!
All were in awe of the glowing gold, red, and pink of the Radio City Music hall interior. A giant tree sized chandelier hung from the glorious high ceiling not to be ignored. The Suarez were dressed to impress and ready for photos in the famous art deco theatre.
After photos it was time for the tour to start! Room after room was dripping with amazing detail and history. The tour even ended with a photo op with a real Rockette!!
It was time to take their amazing seats but not without more treats and gifts, of course. Once the curtain rose the family’s are were glued to the stage. Looking at Joan you could see a peaceful smile on his face the entire show.
After a beautiful and breathtaking performance is was time for a beautiful meal at the famous Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse. A feast was had by all and the Front Row team knew they chose well when Joan said that he indeed just had the best steak of his life.
It had been a long and exciting day and time to part ways. The Front Row staff gave farewell hugs to the Suarez family but only as their induction to the Front Row Family.
