Debbie McLeod’s Front Row Experience: Pittsburgh Steelers Game
Debbie McLeod is a true spitfire. At 54 years young, she is full of energy, positivity, and loves life.
Debbie is the Pittsburgh Steelers #1 Fan. When she was little her father and brother were watching a Dallas Cowboys game. The Cowboys were playing the Steelers. Since Debbie has always been a rebel – she decided to root for the Steelers just to irritate her father and brother. When the Steelers won she was fueled by that feeling and has been a die hard fan ever since.
In 2106, Debbie was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. After a mastectomy the cancer metastasis to 7 or 8 areas in bones in 2017.In 2018 it metastasized once again, to the liver. It is considered incurable.
Debbie’s only wish was to travel to Pittsburgh (she lives in California) to see the Steelers play live at their home stadium.
It was December 16th and time for Debbie’s big day! Debbie and her son, David, came down the elevators of the beautiful Pittsburgh Kimpton Hotel in full Steelers regalia. They were ready to cheer their team on and stay warm! It was the Steelers vs the Patriots and buzz and tension could be felt city wide.
They started off the day with a hearty breakfast at the Union Standard just down the street. The good people at this amazing restaurant had decorated a table in gold and black just for Debbie. Not only that they gave her a table where she could see the players exit their hotel to leave for the game.
Once Debbie heard the players were nearby she jetted onto the sidewalk with her “Chemo to Front Row” sign in search of autographs. With a few false alarms she finally spotted a player and got her first of many signatures.
It was almost time to head to the stadium when Debbie got two major surprises. The first one was that she and her son were getting pre and post game field passes!! The second surprise was that 400+ people from the Best Year Ever Blueprint conference hand wrote her letters of love and encouragement. Debbie was truly blown away by the kindness and support by hundreds of complete strangers. She said their love and letters would help her stay motivated for days to come.
Debbie, David, and the Front Row team arrived at the massive Heinz field stadium for the very first time. Debbie was trying to take in every moment as this was the home of her life long favorite team.
Debbie and David were escorted through the halls, pass the seats, and onto the field where all her favorite players were starting to warm up. She was in awe of the enormous stands towering in all directions. She danced and laughed as music filled the air and the crowd flooded into their seats. A true front row moment.
Finally in her amazing seats Debbie could almost touch the players. She pointed out each of her favorites while reciting a little backstory for each one. She was truly in the zone.
She watched intently while waving her terrible towel. Only taking a break to have the obligatory hot dog and beer. The Steelers fought hard and long and WON against the Patriots. Not a small feat!! Next Debbie and David got to touch the actual grass their team just defeated their foes on. Debbie got to fulfill a life long dream of standing in the end zone of Heinz Field and tossing a football to her son. It was a glorious moment indeed.
The day was almost done but Debbie really wanted her favorite players’ signatures and there was only a small window to get them before they got to their cars after the game. The clock was running but with passion and moxy Debbie managed to get Cameron Sutton, Juju Smith-Schuster, T.J. Watt and more. Another huge victory!
The day was long but amazing. The Front Row team knew they served Debbie the right when she said that it was truly the best day of her life.
